About HMS - Marines

You are at: Home Page : About HMS : Marines

HMS's company of marines was formed as a complimentary group to the Royal Naval officers and men. They are a fully integrated part of HMS and add to the spectacle of any event. The company represents all ranks from the private to the foppish Captain.

As with all HMS equipment and activities, theirs have been fully researched with the helpful co-operation of the Royal Marines Museum, Southsea. The striking red uniforms with their white cross belts, contrast sharply with the dark 'navy' blue of the sailors.

A file of Marines

All members of HMS Marine company have been trained and rated as ordinary seamen before transferring to the company and must then undergo full training in the firing of their musket. As with gunners, all marines must have the appropriate licences and shotgun certificates and are drilled to ensure that safety is not compromised.

The company prides itself in the high standard of its musket and marching drill and will more often than not be found pounding the parade ground to the sound of the drum.
