It
has been a very busy summer for HMS so we have not had much time
to update the website! We have been busy with events
at Kings Lynn (the birthplace of explorer George Vancouver), Kirby
Hall, Portland Castle and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum at Whitby.
Thanks particularly to the good turnout of members who made it to
Whitby on 16/17 September despite the UK fuel crisis. |

Our
preliminary list of HMS events
for 2001 has been published. |

'Above
and Under Hatches' by James Gardner is the latest in the series of
original sailors memoirs published by Chatham. Unlike most of the
sailors' memoirs of the Nelsonic navy, Gardner's was not written for
publication: it was purely intended for the entertainment of his family
and friends, and did not see publication until long after his death.
As a result potential problems of libel did not constrain him to bite
his tongue when it came to opinions of individuals, high and low,
in the naval service. Order your copy now from our
Bookshop. |

a well fed navy where victory could ensure a fabulous profit from
prize money. HMS did the historical recontructions for the flim. |
